Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Locates Missing Elderly Woman With Drone

Last week, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office had to deploy their thermal drone to locate a missing Mount Erie woman.

On Thursday around 10:00pm, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a missing elderly female southwest of Mt. Erie. The missing person had walked away from her residence around 6 in the evening. Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the area and began a search. The Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from Bedford Fire Department and Wayne County Emergency Management Agency.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office launched their drone which is paired with a thermal imaging camera to begin a search. After an extensive search, the Sheriff’s Office drone observed the female in a wooded area about 1.5 miles from the residence. The Deputy piloting the drone was able to guide in Deputies and other responding agencies to rescue the missing woman. The missing person was transported back to the scene and was released to Wayne County Ambulance personnel.
