Jun 17, 2024

On Sunday at 3:55pm, the Fairfield Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire at 909 W Delaware St. in Fairfield. The first responding Fairfiekd Fire Department apparatus arrived 2 minutes later to find smoke showing from the roof of the Barbwire Grill at the above address. Extinguishment efforts began with an advanced fire located in the attic area of the building. There was a collapse of the ceiling in several parts of the building, and some of the roof began to collapse. The entire building sustained water damage with most of the fire damage contained to the attic. Some streets in the area were shut down during the fire to allow for supply hoses from hydrants. The Faith Holiness Church located across the street was opened to assist with firefighter rehab. IDOT assisted with traffic control while the streets were closed. The last units cleared the scene at 9:33pm. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Fairfield FD was assisted by Fairfield Rural FPD, Wayne City FD, Fairfield PD, Wayne County Ambulance, IDOT, City of Fairfield Gas Department, City of Fairfield Water Filtration Department, Wayne White Electric, Faith Holiness Church, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, and Wayne County 911. There were also many people dropping off water for the crews, which was very much appreciated.
