Heat Wave and Storms to Impact Philadelphia Area Midweek

Philadelphia, PA – A heat wave, combined with thunderstorms, will sweep across the Philadelphia region by midweek, with dangerously high temperatures and humidity expected through Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly forecasts that temperatures will rise from the upper 60s on Tuesday to the 90s by Thursday. The humidity will cause the heat index to soar to around 100°F across much of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are likely on Wednesday afternoon and again on Thursday, especially during the hottest hours of the day.

On Tuesday, expect scattered showers and a 30-70% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. The weather will start off cloudy with damp conditions, but conditions will quickly change as the day progresses.

By Wednesday, skies will clear somewhat, and temperatures will climb into the low 90s. Severe storms are possible late in the day. Thursday will continue the hot, humid conditions, with another round of severe storms expected in the afternoon and evening.

For beachgoers in New Jersey, it’s important to exercise extra caution. A moderate rip current risk is in place on Tuesday, with potentially life-threatening currents.

Residents in the area are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and be prepared for sudden storms or power outages. Heat advisories may be issued later this week.

3-Day Forecast Snapshot (Philadelphia Area):
