A north suburban mother was sentenced for her son’s fatal fentanyl overdose.
In January 2024, Richmond police were dispatched to a home for an unresponsive minor.
The 14-year-old boy died at Northwestern Hospital in McHenry. According to officials, he died from a fentanyl and xylazine overdose.
Officials stated that police body cameras captured multiple bags of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and narcotics paraphernalia throughout the house.
Evidence presented in court shows that the boy’s mother, Cara Ullrich, was aware of her son’s overdose but chose not to call 911.
Officials said the boy could have survived if his mother had called for help.
In April 2025, Ullrich pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of controlled substance possession.
On June 13, Ullrich, 46, was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to McHenry officials.
