The driver suspected of killing Sara Burack in a hit-and-run in Hampton Bays, New York, has been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a class D felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
Amanda Kempton, 32, was arrested on Friday, June 20, according to the Southampton Town Police Department and local Long Island outlet Dan’s Papers. The Virginia resident will face the charges on Saturday, June 21.
Details about the vehicle that allegedly hit and killed Burack have yet to be revealed. PEOPLE contacted the Southampton Town Police about the arrest but did not receive an immediate response.
Burack, who starred in the Netflix series Million Dollar Beach House, was killed in an alleged hit-and-run on Thursday, June 19, around 2:45 a.m. She was forty.
The real estate agent was discovered unconscious on Montauk Highway near Villa Paul Restaurant, Southampton police previously reported. She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and died from her injuries. Burack was a Southampton resident.
According to Greater Long Island, the successful luxury real estate broker previously worked with Nest Seekers International, which has offices in The Hamptons and New York City.
“My family has a commercial construction material sales business that I spent many years of my life working for,” Burack told Hamptons.com in 2020. “I have always been intrigued by real estate projects and decided to become a broker after my experience as a summer property manager in the summer house I would rent.”
She added, “For the past 11 years, I have spent half of the year in the Hamptons. It was only natural to turn my passion for real estate into a thriving career.”
Million Dollar Beach House premiered on Netflix in 2020.
