The Yorkville Police Department confirmed Sunday morning, June 22, that a body was discovered in the area of concern while searching for 16-year-old Aiyana Williams, who had been missing since earlier this week.
Yorkville officers discovered the body during an early morning foot patrol and drone operation near the Country Hills subdivision, where Aiyana was last seen. The discovery follows days of coordinated search efforts by multiple agencies, drones, K-9 tracking teams, mounted units, and trained Illinois Search and Rescue Council (ISARC) personnel.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic discovery,” according to a police statement. The identity of the body has yet to be officially confirmed.
Williams was last seen on Fawn Ridge Court, sparking a widespread community search. Residents were asked to inspect their properties, review surveillance footage, and look for signs that someone had obtained food, water, or shelter.
Police had previously stated that there was no evidence of foul play in the case and that it was being investigated as a runaway. Aiyana was described as a 16-year-old Black female standing 5 feet tall, weighing 100 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen dressed in a black shirt, unknown color shorts, and no shoes.
The public is urged to avoid the Country Hills area so that investigators can preserve the scene’s integrity. An official news release will be issued once more information is confirmed.
