A 3-year-old was taken to the hospital after being pulled from the water at an aquatic center in Cary, Illinois, on Saturday.

What we know: At 12:37 p.m. on Saturday, the Cary Fire Protection District received reports of a drowning victim at Sunburst Bay Aquatic Center, 1201 N. First Street in Car.

Paramedics found a 3-year-old in respiratory distress after he was reportedly pulled from the pool. The child’s condition improved after receiving treatment from emergency personnel.

The child was breathing and responsive when he was transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

What we don’t know: Cary Police are looking into the circumstances of the incident. There are no further details.

What they’re saying:”As we enter the heart of summer, we want to remind families that active supervision is required whenever children are near water,” said Cary Fire Chief Brad Delatorre.

“Whether you are at a public pool or in your own backyard, paying attention and following basic safety precautions can make all the difference.

That same level of awareness is equally important along the Fox River, particularly near beaches or while swimming off boats. Life jackets and being aware of your surroundings are essential for avoiding a tragedy.”
