A woman was charged with driving under the influence after colliding with an Illinois Department of Transportation truck that was investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 55 Sunday morning.
Estephany Antunez, 27, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, appeared in court Monday morning charged with one count of passing an emergency vehicle resulting in injury or death, as well as ten misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses such as dui, leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, speeding, and attempting to flee and elude a police officer.
Around 3 a.m., Illinois State Police troopers responded to a three-car crash on northbound I-55 south of Lemont Road in DuPage County, just east of Bolingbrook.
While ISP was investigating the crash, Antunez allegedly drove around the lane closures put in place by toopers and collided with an IDOT truck carrying a worker.
She then drove away from the scene, down a closed road where traffic crash reconstruction crews were working. According to the office, she came dangerously close to hitting several dead bodies on the road as well as an ISP trooper.
An ISP trooper pursued Antunez, who refused to pull over and kept driving. She was eventually apprehended after a two-mile pursuit.
Antunez was arrested after allegedly having a blood alcohol level of.173.
The driver of the IDOT truck was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Antunez was denied pretrial release. She is due back in court on July 21.
