TennesseeĀ – SheIby, a 33-year-old Tennessee parent, was arrested earlier this week and charged with fraudulent identity theft after allegedly leaving her ID alone for nearly ten hours.According to jail records from the Sheriff’s Office, the parent is now facing charges of child abuse and neglect.
Maintenance workers at the apartment complex where the parent lived discovered the 2-year-old alone in her cot during a scheduled check. Police were called to the scene, and the parent returned to the flat about ten hours later, where she was greeted by officers.
Body camera footage from the incident shows the defendant appearing perplexed and unaware of the circumstances.
According to WKRN, in her statements to the responding officers, she explained that she had driven about thirty minutes to see a man. She claimed that her daughter usually sleeps all night and that she expected to return before the child awoke.
The parent also mentioned that she is a full-time mother who needed a break after being unable to find anyone to assist her the night before.
Due to the severe weather and thunderstorms in the area, police believe the child did not sleep all night. She stated that she is a full-time mother who requires a break, and that she attempted to rely on others the night before but was unable to find anyone.
Detective CheIini of the local police department confirmed these details, noting that the parent had expressed a desire for a break due to the difficulties of full-time motherhood. She was taken into custody and is now being held on a $25,000 bond.
The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services is investigating the case, and the child has been placed with family members. The mother is set to appear in court at a later date.
