Police say the man who fatally stabbed another Blue Line passenger on a train near Rosemont last week tried to flee by boarding a shopping mall shuttle bus. Lawrence Strother, 66, did not go far, thanks to Rosemont police officers.

A witness on the train told police that Strother and 42-year-old Jason Rowinski got into an argument while riding an inbound train between O’Hare and Rosemont on Wednesday, June 25 at 7:45 p.m.

Strother pulled out a knife during the argument and stabbed Rowinski in the left knee, according to a Chicago police report. Rowinski was pronounced dead at Lutheran General Hospital less than 30 minutes after suffering the injury.

Rosemont police initially responded to the incident. Their officers discovered that Strother got off the train at the Rosemont station and boarded a shopping mall shuttle. According to the CPD, officers in the suburbs tracked down Strother and recorded his confession on body cameras. Strother was arrested by Chicago police at the Rosemont police station.

He is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing today.
