A missing 20-year-old man was discovered dead in a swimming pool the day after attending a party in Las Vegas.
Tayshaun Todd was discovered dead in a swimming pool at a home on the 2600 block of Palma Vista Avenue, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), ABC affiliate KTNV, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and CBS affiliate KLAS.
According to KTNV, police began their investigation after a homeowner reported finding a body in his pool. According to an incident report obtained by the outlet, police broke up a party at that home around 8:30 p.m. the night before.
Later that night, Christina Todd-Dunn called police to report her son missing and last seen at the house.
Todd-Dunn told the Las Vegas Review-Journ that her younger son was the one who informed her that Tayshaun was missing, and that Tayshaun’s friend said he could not find him after the party was shut down by police.
In addition to calling police, Todd-Dunn stated that she went to the home and spoke with a man who told her he did not know where her son was and then asked her to leave.
Police arrived at the home around 2 a.m., but a police report stated that they did not find him there, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
When Tayshaun’s mother returned home the next day, police had already arrived and she learned that a body had been discovered in the pool, later identified as her son.
“I feel like the police officers failed me,” she told the publication. “They have failed my son. If it was a pool party, you should have done a thorough search, and I am not saying he came up from here. “You should have turned the house upside down to find him.
According to 911 audio obtained by the outlet, when they were contacted about a body discovered in the pool on June 18, the caller stated that they suspected it was the same person police had been looking for in his backyard the night before.
Police are looking into his death as a “possible drowning,” but his cause of death was still unknown as of Monday, June 30, according to the Review-Journal.
Christina told Fox affiliate KVVU that she is heartbroken by the death of her firstborn son. She remembered her son as a kind, funny, and intelligent person.
“All he did was work, play ball, and come home,” she told the outlet, adding that this was only the second party he had ever attended.
On Wednesday, July 2, PEOPLE contacted the LVMPD, the Clark County Coroner’s Office, and Christina Todd-Dunn for additional comments.
