A suspect in the hit-and-run killing of a 15-year-old boy in Crystal Lake has been detained

An arrest has been made in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 15-year-old boy in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday morning that the vehicle and suspect believed to be involved in the crash on Wednesday had been located.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, two 15-year-old boys were walking their bikes home from a fishing trip when a car travelling at 40 mph slammed into one of them from behind at Terra Cotta Road and Deering Oaks Lane. Police reported that the driver fled the scene.

Nick Laureys, 15, was identified as the victim by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy revealed that Nick died as a result of blunt force injuries.

According to the office, no additional suspects have been identified, and no charges have been filed. They intend to release additional information as it becomes available.
