The suspect in the hit-and-run crash that killed a 15-year-old bicyclist in the northwest suburbs was discovered dead over the weekend.

On Wednesday, just after 9:30 p.m., two 15-year-olds were biking south on Terra Cotta Road near the intersection of Deering Oaks Lane in unincorporated Crystal Lake when a car hit one of the bikers from behind, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office reported that the vehicle continued to drive.

Nick Laureys, 15, died from his injuries in the hospital, according to his family.

Police said he had a red taillight activated on his bike.

The sheriff’s office believes the vehicle involved was a dark-colored red 2017-2018 Jeep Cherokee.

Woodstock police said on Friday that during a death investigation at a home, they discovered a matching vehicle.

According to the sheriff, the dead person discovered in the home was identified as the suspect in the fatal hit-and-run crash.

The suspect’s name has yet to be released.

Police are not looking for additional suspects.
