A 33-year-old mother in Oklahoma was arrested for allegedly killing her newborn son after getting “very drunk” on more than a dozen White Claws and sleeping with him and his twin sister in her arms last year.

According to records reviewed by Law&Crime, Spencer Brennan was arrested last week and charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of 3-month-old Rory Kelson.

The Oklahoman reported that around 7:15 a.m. on November 2, 2024, officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 9700 block of Mayview Court.

When one of the officers arrived at the address, he noticed that the infant did not appear to be breathing while being transported to the ambulance, but he was still warm to the touch.

The boy was rushed to OU Children’s Hospital and pronounced dead.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy and reported that the most likely cause of death was “asphyxia due to an unsafe sleep environment.” According to the report, the newborn “was most likely between the back and bottom cushions of the couch.”

According to Oklahoma City NBC affiliate KFOR, the victim’s father made the initial 911 call. He informed the emergency dispatcher that he discovered his son unresponsive at his wife’s feet at approximately 6:56 a.m., while she was sleeping on the couch.

According to investigators, the mother and father drank alcohol the night before the boy was discovered dead, splitting a 12-pack of White Claw Hard Seltzer before the father put their twins to bed in their bassinets at the foot of the couple’s bed around 1 a.m. The father then allegedly went to sleep alone.

Spencer allegedly told police that after the kids went to bed, she drove to a nearby 7-Eleven and bought four more “tall boy” White Claw beverages, which are nearly 20 fluid ounces each rather than the standard 12 fluid ounces.

She allegedly claimed that after 7-Eleven, she came home, sat down on the couch, and fell asleep, claiming that she had no memory of what happened next because she was “probably very drunk.”

“I mean, I was drunk enough to just need to pass out,” she said, according to the affidavit.

Notably, officers discovered three “tall boy” White Claws empty in the trash.

According to a child abuse examiner, Spencer’s drunken state was most likely a contributing factor to her son’s death.

“Due to Brennan’s level of intoxication, her awareness levels were altered and had [her son] been left in his bassinet the risk of being in an unsafe sleep environment would have been lowered and the probability of the child still being alive would have been increased,” according to an affidavit.

Spencer was arrested on July 1, 2025, and processed at the Cleveland County Jail, where she was still detained as of Thursday afternoon, according to records. The judge set her bond at $500,000.

Spencer is scheduled to appear in court again on the morning of August 5.
