Wisconsin Weather Alert Rainfall Shifts South of I-90, Up to 2 Inches Possible Through Saturday

La Crosse, Wisconsin – A shift in the rainfall pattern has led to a decrease in expected totals for much of Wisconsin this weekend, with the heaviest rain now moving south of Interstate 90 through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, lingering moisture from storms last night has mostly moved south, reducing the risk of widespread flooding in areas like La Crosse, Black River Falls, and Tomah.

Northern areas along and north of I-90 can expect between a third of an inch to 1.5 inches of rain, with scattered showers and storms throughout the day on Saturday. However, areas south of I-90, including Prairie du Chien and Richland Center, may experience heavier rainfall, with totals reaching up to 2 inches if storms develop in the right conditions.

Key Travel and Safety Information:

Road Conditions: Roadways such as US-61 and WI-27 may experience brief ponding or minor flooding during heavier downpours. Drivers should be cautious and prepared for rapidly changing road conditions.

Residents in Vernon and Crawford Counties: Stay updated with local alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain. There may be localized flooding, and rural areas could face brief power outages.

Power Outages: Charge mobile devices in case of power outages, especially in rural regions south of I-90.

This shift in rainfall and instability patterns mirrors storm behavior seen in mid-June. While showers may continue overnight, the heaviest rainfall risk remains to the south of I-90. Keep an eye on additional updates and advisories as storms may develop further into Saturday.
