CAMDEN, N.J. – A 46-year-old man was recently arrested and charged with fatally stabbing another man during a dispute in 2011 and leaving him in an abandoned home.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, on the night of October 11, 2011, Camden City Police responded to an abandoned home and discovered 42-year-old Brian Holden lying in the front room with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
Holden’s girlfriend allegedly told detectives that she met with 46-year-old Kenyar Hill and “agreed to have sexual intercourse with him for money.” After the encounter, she allegedly got into a fight with Hill, and he took his money. The victim’s girlfriend reportedly stated that she “yelled for Holden,” who confronted Hill. Hill allegedly stabbed Holden several times during the altercation.
Holden’s girlfriend was taken to the hospital, where DNA evidence was gathered during a sexual assault test. The New Jersey State Police laboratory later received the evidence, but there were no matches from the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) at the time.
In 2022, the lab notified authorities that Hill was identified as a “high stringency match” based on the DNA profile. The following year, detectives conducted a buccal swab on Hill and discovered that his DNA matched the swabs from the sexual assault examination.
The prosecutor’s office recently announced that Hill had been charged with first-degree murder. He appeared in court on July 2 and will be held in custody pending trial.
