ELMHURST – This week, Illinois State Police are investigating the death of a suspect who was allegedly involved in a chase with suburban police.
According to troopers, the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday night on Interstate 294 in Elmhurst.
According to troopers, it all started when officers from the Elmhurst Police Department were pursuing a vehicle that was allegedly wanted in connection with retail theft.
During the pursuit, troopers said an unknown number of suspects fled the vehicle on foot and ran into the road.
During the alleged flee attempt, one of the suspects was hit by a car, and troopers said he later died from his injuries.
It is unclear whether any other individuals involved in the chase were apprehended.
Following the crash, officers on the scene requested assistance from ISP division of the Criminal Investigation Public Integrity Task Force Special agents to conduct an investigation.
Troopers have yet to identify the suspect killed, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
