A Group of Retirees Will Receive Their Social Security Payment Next Wednesday

Every month, more than 70 million Americans rely on Social Security retirement benefits to cover their living expenses. These payments are distributed by the Social Security Administration (SSA) on specific dates each month, depending on the beneficiary’s birthdate.

For those who claimed their Social Security benefits before May 1997, the payments are generally sent on the 3rd of each month (or the nearest business day if the 3rd falls on a weekend). However, for those who claimed their benefits after May 1997, the payment schedule is based on their birthdate, with payments sent on the second, third, or fourth Wednesdays of each month.

July Social Security Payments: What’s Already Been Sent

By now, two rounds of Social Security payments have already been sent for the month of July:

July 3rd: The first payment was made for those who claimed their benefits before May 1997.

July 9th: The second round of payments was sent to beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any month.

Upcoming Social Security Payment Dates

The next set of payments will go out on Wednesday, July 16th, to retirees and their surviving family members whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any month. The final round of July payments will be made on Wednesday, July 23rd, for those with birthdays from the 21st onward.

How Much Will I Receive in Retirement in 2025?

The amount of your Social Security benefits in 2025 depends on your retirement age and your earnings history. Here’s a breakdown of potential maximum benefits:

At age 62 (early retirement): The maximum monthly benefit is $2,831 for someone with a high-income history who doesn’t wait until full retirement age.

At age 67 (full retirement age for some): The maximum benefit increases to $4,018, assuming the individual has worked for 35 years with high income.

At age 70 (delayed retirement): The highest possible benefit is $5,108 for someone who has worked for 35 years with high income and delays retirement until age 70.

However, the average monthly benefit for retirees is typically closer to $2,000 per month. This amount fluctuates, with figures generally ranging from $1,980 to $2,002.

What to Do If Your Payment Is Delayed

If your Social Security payment doesn’t arrive on the expected date, first wait three business days—it could be a temporary delay. If after that time your payment still hasn’t arrived, you should contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213
