A man from St. Charles was injured in a jet ski accident on the Illinois River

A St. Charles man’s first time operating a jet ski Saturday left him hurt. Conservation Police’s Sgt Phil Wire says the 56 year old and his buddy were on the Illinois River, near the mouth of the Vermillion, around 1:45pm. The two decided to jump the wake of a larger 36 ft boat passing through.

While going 20 mph, the St. Charles man jumped it, was tossed into the air and landed on the handle bars of his jet ski. The wake of the larger craft hit the jet ski again and the man was tossed off. The injured male was taken to OSF St. Elizabeth’s Peru campus. His condition is not known.

No names were released. Sgt. Wire chalks the incident up to operator inexperience. Alcohol is not suspected.
