A 22-year-old pregnant woman was shot in an Alabama sports bar, and her unborn child did not survive, according to multiple reports.

Hoover police responded to reports of a shooting involving two employees at Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux on Tattersall Park Drive shortly after 1:40 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 14, according to ABC affiliate WBMA.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a pregnant female victim with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Police said the woman was taken to a local hospital, and while she is expected to survive, her unborn child did not, according to the outlet.

AL.com reports that the woman is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

According to Lt. Daniel Lowe of the Hoover Police Department, the suspect is 36 years old and male. While an investigation into the incident is still ongoing, “preliminary accounts indicate reckless behavior with a firearm was involved on the part of the suspect.”

Lowe told AL.com that investigators are currently working with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and anticipate that formal charges will be filed on Monday, June 16.

On Sunday, June 15, PEOPLE contacted Hoover Police for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.

The suspect is currently being held in the Hoover City Jail, according to CBS affiliate WIAT. His identity will not be released until he is formally charged.
