Tennessee – A Tennessee man was arrested late Tuesday night and charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault after a violent incident involving his girlfriend and a member of her family.
According to Tennessee authorities, the altercation started when the defendant’s pregnant girlfriend, Toni, 29, confronted him about flirtatious messages he had sent to another woman.
In response, the defendant allegedly strangled her. When she threatened to contact his parents for help, he reportedly stated that “he will kill her and his parent,” escalating the situation.
The situation took a tragic turn when the girl’s family member, Charquwan, 26, arrived on the scene to intervene. During the confrontation, the defendant shot him fatally. Officers arrived at the scene just before midnight and discovered the victim critically injured on the sidewalk.
Despite efforts to provide assistance, he died on the scene. The 29-year-old defendant was also present and was detained by police. A handgun was retrieved from the scene.
Following his arrest, he was taken to the jail and charged with criminal homicide and two counts of aggravated assault. The investigation is ongoing, and Tennessee authorities are gathering additional information about the events leading up to the shooting.
According to the affidavit, the woman later told police that her partner had a firearm next to his bed when he allegedly threatened her after she said she would call his parent to come over.
The unidentified girlfriend also claimed that they had argued prior to the shooting, and that he choked her at least three times after she confronted him about the messages.
