ARLINGTON HEIGHTS – Family members of an Arlington Heights woman who turned 80 this week surprised her with an exciting opportunity.

Ann Swindell turned 80 this week, and her family decided to celebrate by throwing her a surprise birthday party, during which they offered her the opportunity to skydive.

“They surprised me for my birthday,” Swindell explained. “They took me on an Amazing Race-themed pretty and one of my options was to come skydiving.”

Swindell eventually accepted the challenge and joined her daughter and granddaughter as they climbed into the sky, ready to take the leap.

The cameras were rolling as the mother of three and grandmother of six took to the skies in a tandem jump with Skydive Windy City Chicago.

When she landed, Swindell hugged her skydiving partner and gave her a high five.

Swindell is a retired seamstress who is extremely active. She not only attends Park Ridge Community Church but also volunteers at Peter Patterson Glassworks.
