CHICAGO – A Des Plaines woman has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a fatal crash in a north suburban neighborhood, police confirmed this week.

The crash occurred near Golf and Mount Prospect Roads in Des Plaines, and one person was killed when their vehicle collided with the woman’s car. Authorities believe that alcohol played a significant role in the incident.

Victim Pronounced Dead at the Scene

When emergency responders arrived at the crash site, they discovered that the driver of the other vehicle had died as a result of his injuries. The deceased’s identity has not yet been made public, pending family notification.

Driver Faces Felony DUI Charges

The woman, who has yet to be identified in official documents, has been charged with aggravated DUI involving death, which is a Class 2 felony in Illinois. Des Plaines police said the case is being referred to Cook County prosecutors, who may seek additional charges based on toxicology results.

Police emphasized that the suspect remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Residents Alarmed by Dangerous Intersection

Neighbors near the Golf and Mount Prospect intersection have described the area as “notoriously risky,” particularly late at night.

“People speed down this road all the time. We’ve asked for more stoplights or enforcement,” one nearby resident told WGN.

The fatal crash has reignited local calls for increased police presence and improved traffic calming measures in the area.

Case Now in Cook County Court System

The suspect is currently detained pending a bond hearing. Des Plaines police confirmed that formal charges had been filed and that the court proceedings would begin this week.

More information about the victim and toxicology findings are expected in the coming days, according to officials.
