A woman was died in a major I-55 crash in Bolingbrook, police said

According to police, a woman died after her car crashed into a ditch in the south suburbs on Monday.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of Interstate 55 at Route 53 in Bolingbrook.

When officers arrived, they discovered a female passenger trapped inside the car. The victim was transported to a hospital in Downers Grove, where she died.

The victim was a 21-year-old woman from Morris, according to Illinois State Police.

The driver of the car was not injured.

ISP stated that the right lane on SB I-55 was closed while they investigated the scene.

Chopper 7 flew over the scene at around 6 a.m., revealing a severely damaged vehicle.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
