KNOX COUNTY, Ill. – A woman was recently convicted of poisoning a man for months, killing him, and hiding his body.
The Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office announced on June 26 that a judge convicted Marcy Oglesby of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery by administering a dangerous substance in the death of retired Maquon Police Chief Richard “Rick” Young. Oglesby’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 3.
According to prosecutors, Oglesby poisoned Young over several months, from the summer of 2021 to his death on November 1, 2021.
The defendant allegedly hid Young’s body in a storage unit across the street from their shared residence. Officials discovered Young’s remains nearly a year later, on October 7, 2022, “in an advanced state of decomposition.”
Young was reportedly known in his neighbourhood as “Rick the Cop.” He was a “devoted public servant,” according to the state’s attorney’s office, and his “compassion extended beyond his badge.”
They claimed, “Whether it was a neighbour in need, a family member, or a stray animal, Rick was always willing to lend a hand.”
