The Kane County Board formally recognized Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy Dalton Keller for his brave actions during a life-threatening domestic violence incident that occurred early on May 31.

At 12:09 a.m., Deputy Keller responded to a 911 call reporting a violent disturbance at a Big Rock residence. Deputy Keller arrived at the scene and saw a 71-year-old woman being physically attacked by a younger man.

Keller quickly forced his way into the house and subdued the attacker, taking him into custody. The suspect was later charged with attempted murder in relation to the assault.

During its June meeting, the Kane County Board awarded Deputy Keller an Honorary Commendation of Courage for his decisive actions, which Sheriff Ron Hain said likely saved the victim’s life.

Sheriff Hain praised Keller’s bravery, stating that this incident demonstrates both the dangers that deputies face and the critical role they play in protecting the community.

The arrested 18-year-old was also charged with two counts of aggravated domestic battery, one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person 60 years old or older, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of domestic battery, one count of resisting an officer, and one count of possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor.
