A teen boy in Wisconsin beat up his uncle, who was also his roommate, after being told he could not have a friend sleep over at their house, according to police, and the victim later died from his injuries.
Ronnie Fuentez, 17, was initially charged with battery, but the charge was later upgraded to murder after the victim died. According to a criminal complaint, a Waukesha police officer was summoned to Waukesha Memorial Hospital on February 5 in response to a report of a domestic violence attack four days prior.
The officer reported seeing the victim, who has not been identified, awake and conscious in a hospital bed. However, the man could speak, but it was difficult “due to internal bleeding in his brain.”
Nonetheless, the victim persisted, telling the officer that it was his nephew, Fuentez, who assaulted him on the night of February 1. They had been living together for approximately four years.
According to the complaint, the victim was in an argument with his nephew around 10 p.m. that night because he refused to let him have a friend sleep over, which “caused the defendant to get upset.” The victim told Fuentez that he needed to tell the friend to go home, which reportedly prompted the nephew to yell.
Punches were then thrown.
Fuentez struck the victim in the head with a closed fist, the victim claimed, before retaliating with a similar punch “in self-defense.” When the victim raised his hands to protect his head, Fuentez “continued to punch him with a closed fist” while yelling “p— boy.”
According to reports, the suspect fled the residence immediately following the fight and returned the next morning. It is unclear what happened to the friend.
The victim later told police that Fuentez told him, “I have wanted to f- you up since the first day I moved in.”
In the three days that followed, the victim did not call the police or visit the hospital. Two days after the fight, on February 3, he experienced a migraine in the afternoon, but after taking over-the-counter medication, he reported feeling better.
Two days later, however, the migraine persisted. Then an especially troubling event occurred.
The victim claimed that late in the morning on February 5, he was on the phone with his mother when he “began to struggle with speaking in complete sentences.”
His mother believed he was having a stroke and drove over to check on him, eventually transporting him to the hospital. Nurses informed him that he had an internal brain bleed and had been admitted to the intensive care unit.
It appears that Fuentez’s alleged crime on February 1 occurred while he was out on bond after being released for an unrelated crime in September. As a result, he is also charged with misdemeanor bail jumping because he “did not comply with the terms of his bond,” according to police.
The victim died in late May, according to WITI. Fuentez is due in Waukesha County Court on Saturday.
