Martin Avenue Apartments improves residents’ lives by offering affordable housing, fulfilling lifestyles, and dependable senior community resources.

Over 50 years ago, Martin Avenue Apartments welcomed the first 120 low-income seniors. Since then, more than 10,000 seniors and their families have been served.

With the construction of a new building and the complete renovation of all apartments in 2020, it is now home to over 200 residents who enjoy amenities such as a fitness room, bistro, computer lab, hair salon, media centre and more.

It is a one-of-a-kind independent living community in a great location near downtown Naperville. The non-profit owner, Naperville Elderly Homes, Inc., is led by a volunteer board of directors whose mission is to change people’s lives by providing affordable housing, fulfilling lifestyles, and dependable senior community resources.

Martin Avenue Apartments is more than a place to live

Aside from affordable housing, the community provides free bus transportation to shopping and social events, health resources, nutritious food programs, and fitness classes to help seniors live independent, meaningful lives.

The waiting list for a flat is almost two years. Affordable senior housing is a growing concern, and community support is essential.

According to Harvard’s Joint Housing Centre Study, by 2035, one out of every three U.S. households will be led by someone over 65, and by 2038, the number of heads of households aged 70-79 will reach 10.7 million.

With 17.5 million households aged 80 and up expected by 2038, the growing senior population will face a housing crisis.

Martin Avenue Apartments was founded nearly 50 years ago with a deep understanding and concern for low-income seniors and people with disabilities. Its mission is to provide affordable housing in an independent-living, safe, and caring community.
