South Jersey and Delaware are facing the possibility of spotty tidal flooding late Saturday, with scattered rain showers expected to drift across the region. While conditions remain mild overnight, areas near the coast should be prepared for minor flooding risks, especially during high tide.
Light Rain Showers and Tidal Flooding
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, there is a 30% to 40% chance of rain across areas south of Philadelphia through Saturday night. Coastal towns such as Cape May, Dover, and Bethany Beach are most at risk for rainfall. Though the rain amounts will be light, the combination of saturated ground and rising tides could lead to brief tidal flooding, particularly in low-lying areas along the Delaware Bay.
These minor floods are expected to cause some disruptions to roadways and neighborhoods near the water. Residents in these flood-prone zones are urged to monitor local weather alerts, avoid driving on flooded streets, and secure outdoor belongings to prevent any damage.
Mild Overnight Temperatures and Light Winds
Temperatures overnight will remain mild, with lows in the upper 50s in Allentown and Trenton, and around 60°F in Philadelphia, Dover, and Atlantic City.
Winds will be light, reducing concerns about additional coastal erosion or storm intensity. However, the mild conditions may lead to a more prolonged period of rainfall, which could exacerbate localized flooding.
