Minor Earthquake Shakes South-Central Texas Near Dilley

A small earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 struck South-Central Texas early on Saturday morning, jolting parts of the region, including areas near Dilley. The tremor occurred at 3:44 a.m. CDT and was centered about 7 kilometers southeast of Dilley in Frio County. Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage have been reported.

Earthquake Details

The Texas Seismological Network (TexNet) reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 12.2 kilometers. Despite the small magnitude, the tremor may have been felt lightly in surrounding rural areas and along Interstate 35, particularly between San Antonio and Laredo.

The U.S. Geological Survey is asking residents who felt the shake to submit reports to help with scientific research and monitoring.

Impact and Safety Precautions

Although earthquakes of this size are usually harmless, experts emphasize that seismic activity in Texas, especially near oil and gas production zones, has become more common in recent years.

Local emergency officials recommend residents review basic earthquake safety measures, such as securing heavy items, identifying safe spots indoors, and preparing for potential future events.

No aftershocks have been reported, but TexNet continues to monitor the area closely for any additional seismic activity.
