Missouri Weather Alert Severe Storms East of I-35, Kansas City Faces Risk on Tuesday, July 1st

Kansas City, Missouri, is under a weather watch as severe storms are expected to move east of the city, potentially affecting areas along the I-35 and I-49 corridors.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms for much of eastern Missouri and extreme eastern Kansas.

While Kansas City may avoid the brunt of the storms, residents should remain alert for possible severe weather, especially through the afternoon until 5 p.m.

Severe Storm Threat and Timing

Severe thunderstorms are expected to push eastward across Missouri and Kansas, with the highest likelihood of damaging winds and isolated hail found east of I-35. While the most intense weather may bypass Kansas City, residents should stay informed and prepared.

The greatest threat will occur during the afternoon hours, and while widespread severe weather isn’t expected this week, it’s still important to monitor local weather updates for potential changes.

Looking Ahead: Summer Heat and Humidity

This week, Missouri will experience a break from severe weather, but the heat and humidity will build ahead of the July 4th holiday.

Temperatures will rise from the upper 80s on Wednesday to the low 90s by Thursday. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies through midweek, although patchy fog may appear overnight, especially in the early mornings.

As we approach the July 4th weekend, hot and humid conditions are expected, with thunderstorms becoming more likely after 1 p.m. on Friday. Outdoor events could face disruptions due to the increasing chances of storms.

Saturday will see a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms, continuing through Sunday with scattered storms and temperatures slightly cooler in the upper 80s.

Five-Day Weather Outlook for Kansas City (July 2–6)

Wednesday, July 2: Sunny, high near 90°F, light south wind.

Thursday, July 3: Mostly sunny, high near 91°F.

Friday, July 4: Chance of storms after 1 p.m., high near 90°F.

Saturday, July 5: Partly sunny, 40% chance of PM storms, high around 92°F.

Be Prepared for the 4th of July Weekend

As we approach the 4th of July, keep in mind that thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon. If you’re planning outdoor activities, have backup plans in place and stay updated with the latest weather alerts. Summer humidity will also make it feel hotter, so be sure to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
