Nathan Sweeney enters a guilty plea in the collision that claimed Deputy Christina Musil's life

DEKALB – Nathan Sweeney, the man accused of killing Illinois State Police Deputy Christina Musil in a drug-fueled crash in 2024, has pleaded guilty.

According to investigators, Musil, 35, was parked on the shoulder of Route 23, just south of Perry Road in Waterman, around 10:30 p.m. on March 28th, 2024, when Sweeney’s Kentworth truck went off the road and collided with the back of her squad car.

She was transported to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, where she later died.

On Thursday, June 26th, Sweeney pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI resulting in death.

Sweeney is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26th.
