Corpus Christi, Texas – NOAA Weather Radios across South Texas will be offline through Wednesday as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi conducts a scheduled system upgrade.
This disruption may leave some residents without direct access to automated weather alerts, and emergency managers are urging people to rely on alternate methods for weather warnings.
The NWS announced that the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) will be updated from Monday, June 16, through Wednesday, June 18.
During this time, while forecast products and warnings will still be issued without interruption, NOAA radio transmitters and the local forecast phone line (361-289-1861) will be temporarily unavailable.
This outage will also result in a halt to certain services, including graphical forecast maps and climate text products (CLI, CF6), which depend on the updated systems.
However, the Corpus Christi NWS office will remain open and fully staffed 24/7, ensuring that core warning services will continue through other channels such as local TV stations, weather apps, and county alert systems.
With summer storms becoming more frequent, residents in Nueces, Kleberg, and surrounding counties are urged to stay weather-aware and use multiple backup methods to receive emergency weather alerts. Relying solely on NOAA Weather Radios during this period may leave you without critical updates.
