A 17-year-old Georgia girl is facing adult murder charges for allegedly shooting her mother and stepfather to death inside their own home while her 6-year-old sister was present, with cops claiming the youngster discovered the bodies.
“To me, she is probably the saddest victim in all of this,” said Ashley Hulsey, a spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, at a Tuesday afternoon news conference announcing the arrest of Sarah Patrick of Tyus for the deaths of James and Kristin Brock last February.
Hulsey stated that the younger child was unaware of what occurred after discovering her parents with multiple gunshot wounds. “Smallest daughter found them and then she came and told Sarah and Sarah made the 911 call,” according to Hulsey.” “Sarah was in the home.”
On Feb. 20, police responded to the Brock residence at 1531 Carrollton Tyus Road after receiving a call from Patrick and discovered James Brock, 45, and Kristin Brock, 41, dead inside. They lived there with Patrick and the “little girl” at the time, according to Hulsey.
“Mountains of evidence have gotten us … here today,” Hulsey said, noting how James Brock’s death was “a special case” due to things he managed to live through in terms of health before being allegedly killed by his stepdaughter.
“According to his family, he had a lot of heart trouble; he had numerous heart surgeries,” says Hulsey. “I believe he may have been waiting for a heart transplant at one point.
To me, one of the most important takeaways from this story is that his life was cut short despite having so many opportunities. And that a mother and stepfather will never be able to raise their children, let alone the little girl who lived at home.”
Patrick is charged as an adult with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault. Husley emphasized that the investigation was still ongoing after reporters asked if other family members were being investigated for assisting Patrick in “covering up” her alleged crimes.
When asked if Patrick tried to hide what happened, Husley replied, “Considering that she did not just tell us what happened, yes. But who knows what goes through a young person’s mind like that?”
According to cops, the teen’s biological father allegedly turned her over to police this week after being informed that she had arrest warrants for the Brock killings.
“It is very possible that others are involved as well,” Husley said. “We are still working with her diligently, our investigators have been speaking with her.”
