YORKVILLE – An Illinois man is facing multiple charges for allegedly attempting to hit a pedestrian with his pickup truck and colliding with several vehicles outside a Yorkville business, according to police.
The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Sunday at a business located in the 1500 block of Corneils Road.
A witness told Yorkville police that a black Toyota pickup truck hit several parked cars and appeared to try to hit a pedestrian.
Officers arrived to discover numerous damaged vehicles and property, but the truck had already fled the scene.
A short time later, police discovered the pickup truck about a mile east, in a ditch on Corneils Road. Authorities said the driver appeared to have lost control.
Charges filed: The driver, Thomas Betsinger, 50, of Montgomery, was found near the truck.
He was taken to the Kendall County Jail and arrested for the following charges:
One count of aggravated assault (a Class 4 felony).
One charge of criminal damage to property (Class 4 felony)
One count of attempted reckless homicide.
Two more counts of aggravated assault.
One charge of driving under the influence of alcohol
Surveillance video from the business showed Betsinger’s truck leaving the parking lot surface multiple times in what police described as “an intentional attempt to strike a pedestrian,” before colliding with two parked vehicles and driving away.
Next steps: Betsinger will attend a pretrial release hearing on July 14 evening.
