Police have issued a warning about scammers approaching drivers in suburban parking lots, advising residents not to believe their claims.
Glenview police issued a social media alert Monday, warning residents that scammers have been approaching people in parking lots and offering to repair damage to their vehicles.
“The subjects appear to fix the damage, even when asked not to, and then demand payment. Victims later discover the vehicle was not repaired after being intimidated into paying,” the post stated.
Sgt. Carly Gaba said there have been two reports from Glenview residents in the last month. The first incident was reported a month ago, and the second was reported on Monday, prompting the social media post.
Gaba claims that nearby villages and suburbs have also been plagued by scammers, but she does not specify which ones.
Police advise people not to speak with anyone who offers on-the-spot repairs.
“Do not provide payment to someone you do not know is a legitimate business,” according to the message. “Do not become their next victim. “Please spread the word!”
