A Nevada woman was sentenced to at least a dozen years in prison after pleading guilty to killing her boyfriend. She confronted him after discovering another woman’s tampon in his trash.
According to Nevada court records, Julie Bush, 31, pleaded guilty in March after being charged with voluntary manslaughter and driving under the influence in May 2024.
KLAS and the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Bush confronted her boyfriend, Richard Penardo Jr., 51, after discovering the tampons in his trash can.
According to the outlets, Bush claimed she got into her car while Penardo swung a steel chain, breaking the windows.
Bush then allegedly accelerated the vehicle, colliding with Penardo and throwing him into a brick wall, according to KLAS, citing prosecutors.
Penardo died the next day, according to reports.
According to both outlets, Bush received a 12- to 35-year prison sentence on Tuesday, June 17.
Bush addressed the court and expressed her regret to the judge before she handed down her sentence.
“I love him very much,” Bush told KLAS. “I am sorry that he passed away and I wish I could change it, but I can’t, and I know there is not a sentence in the world that is going to make anybody satisfied.”
According to the outlet, Bush’s public defender stated that her client is the mother of a five-year-old child.
