CHICAGO – Six people are in police custody following an armed robbery that sparked multiple pursuits throughout Chicagoland on Friday.
According to Cicero police, the pursuit began after an armed robbery at a gas station in the 5100 block of W. Roosevelt involving several suspects.
“Several vehicles, each carrying multiple suspects, reportedly approached a courier who was handling cash for a nearby business. An estimated $70,000 in cash was taken, according to a Cicero town spokesman.
Cicero police pursued two vehicles, which ended near W. West End Avenue and North Kostner Avenue in Chicago. A Chicago squad car was struck during the pursuit, but no one was injured, according to officials.
Officers arrested two people on the scene.
Authorities also pursued a white Honda sedan, which SkyCam9 caught driving at high speeds in an attempt to evade police, to an apartment building in the 4400 block of W. West End Avenue. There, police detained two more people.
Additionally, responding law enforcement officials identified a black Chrysler as being involved in the armed robbery. Illinois State Police later discovered the vehicle traveling westbound on I-290, sparking a chase across I-294 and I-94 into Indiana.
Two suspects fled the vehicle from I-94 in Hammond, running to the Little Calumet River. The Cicero town spokesman stated that both people surrendered while in the water.
Six suspects are in custody in connection with the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
