On Sunday, four tornadoes briefly touched down across the Texas Panhandle, with one causing minor damage to homes in Borger and another destroying a barn in rural Dallam County.
The National Weather Service in Amarillo confirmed the tornadoes, which occurred during the afternoon hours, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to tornado activity.
Tornado Details and Damage Reports
The first tornado, an EF0 with winds reaching 80 mph, struck Borger at 4:26 p.m. It followed a short 0.2-mile path near Boyd and Sterling streets on the north side of town. While the twister damaged shingles and snapped tree branches, there were no reported injuries.
Around 12 minutes later, a more powerful EF1 tornado with winds up to 95 mph touched down in southwest Dallam County at 4:38 p.m. This tornado traveled nearly two miles, destroying a barn just south of FM 1727.
Earlier that afternoon, two weaker tornadoes were reported near Felt and Perico, both of which were in open areas and did not cause structural damage. The Felt tornado tracked over six miles, flattening grassland vegetation along its path.
Weather Awareness for the Texas Panhandle
As June marks the peak of tornado season in the region, officials are urging residents to stay weather-aware. While no additional storms are expected this week, further surveys may follow to assess damage from the tornadoes.
The Texas Panhandle remains a region at high risk for tornadoes, and it’s important for locals to remain vigilant during this time.
