West Side Crash Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

Just before 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to Black Road and Magnolia Drive for a report of a traffic accident involving injuries. A preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that a Buick Regal was traveling westbound on Black Road near Magnolia Drive.

The Buick is believed to have veered left into an eastbound lane of Black Road, colliding head-on with an eastbound Buick Encore driven by a 68-year-old female from Joliet. This collision caused the Buick Regal to collide with a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 26-year-old male from Joliet who was also traveling east on Black Road.

The Joliet Fire Department transported the driver of the Buick Regal to St Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Will County Coroner’s Office identified him as David Lee Nelson, 57, of Plainfield.

The driver and female passenger of the Buick Encore, a 69-year-old woman from Lake Station, Indiana, were taken to St Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.

This traffic crash is still being investigated. The roadway was temporarily closed to allow Joliet Police Department Traffic Investigators to fully reconstruct the scene.

Anyone with video footage or information about this crash should contact the Joliet Police Department’s Traffic Unit at (815) 724-3193.
